Every major Canadian newspaper and magazine of the past half century has published columns and stories by Harry Bruce.

For his magazine pieces and books, he has won more than a dozen regional and national awards.

As a boy in Toronto, he was hushed by his mother when his father Charles, home from a long day's work at the Canadian Press news agency, lay down on a chesterfield in the family living room to scribble what turned out to be a fine novel, and verse that won the Governor General's Award for Poetry.

Now, Harry Bruce's long interest in the mysteries of the writing process has resulted in the book of a lifetime. It was his own long and distinguished career that informed his extensive research. He has been no stranger to page fright.

A great-grandfather, he lives with his wife, Penny, in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
